The Art of Becoming Leyenda

Melly Barajas built Leyenda de México to share Mexico’s heritage, quality, and spirit through tequila. In Pato O’Ward, she found the same pride, passion, and relentless drive to become a legend, making him an ideal partner as the brand steps into the world of motorsport.

Some people build brands. Others build careers. But very few manage to build something that truly leaves a mark. Something that goes beyond selling a product or gaining recognition. Something that represents identity, passion, and purpose. That is precisely what Melly Barajas set out to create with Leyenda de México.

“Leyenda de México for us is a brand with a lot of history and depth.” In Mexico, a leyenda is more than simply a legend. It refers to the stories, myths, and traditions passed down through generations that become part of a shared identity and culture.

“For a long time, different celebrities from all kinds of industries approached us wanting to collaborate,” Melly said. “Honestly, I never accepted because I felt they didn’t align with the philosophy of the company. They just wanted to sell tequila to make money, and that didn’t match what we believed in.”

“But then we started watching Pato,” she continued. “We saw his strength, the effort he puts into what he does. He’s exactly like us in the sense that he works nonstop toward what he wants. He had the same goals, the same ideals, the same upbringing. He’s Mexican, which is extremely important to us.”
